HOW DID IMPERIA SKY GARDEN COME TO LIFE?

The ‘destined’ cooperation with MIKGroup was originated from the aspiration of jointly creating city, suspended gardens for city dwellers, said Professor Dietmar Eberle, the chairman of Baumschlarge Eberle Architekten (BEA) with his utmost respect for the partner.

The concept of ‘green roof” is no stranger to the world; however, it is still rather new to Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general. Therefore, the introduction of Imperia Sky Garden project with this trendy design has won a popular appeal in the market.

To bring this idea to life, MIKGroup cooperated with Baumschlarge Eberle Architekten (BEA), a multinational architecture company ranked among top 100 most famous architecture firms in the world, with the experience of having designed around 1000 projects globally. Professor Dietmar Eberle, the chairman of BEA, recently had some interesting sharings about the cooperation with MIKGroup in designing this “big-bang” Imperia Sky Garden.

- When did Baumschlarge Eberle Architekten (BEA) and MIKGroup officially start the cooperation?

We first cooperated on Imperia Garden 3 years ago. Fortunately, when our team was conceiving the idea of city gardens, we got the nod from MIKGroup – a project developer staying consistent with their aspiration to build green gardens and space for residents. This can be described as the convergence of great minds; thanks to MIKGroup, we had an opportunity to realize our conceived idea of city garden.

- Has BEA designed other projects for MIKGroup after Imperia Garden?

After Imperia Garden, we won the bid and had the honor of designing Imperia Sky Garden and Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc for MIKGroup. As far as we were concerned, these two projects won important awards at PropertyGuru Vietnam Property Awards 2018, where Imperia Sky Garden was awarded for the Best Condo Landscape Architectural Design; and Mövenpick Resort Waverly was the holder of double awards: Best Hotel Development and Best Resort Architectural Design. This is a great success of our partnership.

- Where did Imperia Sky Garden take inspiration from?

We had special interests in this project right from the very beginning since there are no longer many prime locations in Hanoi such as 423 Minh Khai, which is not only in close proximity of the Old Quarter but also boasting a panorama view towards the Red River. In our opinion, it is imperative to have a worthy design accordingly. Plus, thanks to our previous working experience with MIKGroup, we can well understand their expectations about their projects, which must be green, nature-friendly and each project should make a unique city garden.

“Sky Garden” solution was ultimately selected. From my preliminary concept sketches, BEA team worked for consecutive 2 years to get the idea completed. That explains why the Imperia Sky Garden is worth every penny.

 - How has the idea been developed by MIKGroup and BEA teams?

In general, building blocks are arranged and divided into “tree branches” to offer the best view, which helps optimize space and daylight so that all departments can enjoy “fresh air” – which can hardly be found in other projects.

Between the two building blocks runs a tropical garden landscape that offers a panorama view of departments from above. Ventilation and fire prevention & fighting systems are designed to not only bring modern look but also ensure safety. Especially0, we also set up a rooftop garden and swimming pool that look towards the Red River to add a luxury feel for Sky Garden. It is the very idea of turning the rooftop into the relaxation space, and garden for residents that helps Sky Garden concept become a message and official name of the project.

- There have been a lot of famous sky gardens all over the world, i.e Rockefeller Center Roof Garden (New York), Kensington Roof Gardens (London), Acros Garden (Japan) and etc., do you think that rooftop garden construction has become a popular trend?

Not only in developed countries but also in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia – where the climate is the same as that of Vietnam, rooftop garden has becoming increasingly popular. It is not only an added value but also represents an approach to sustainable growth and reduced urbanization impacts. However, from our observation, in Hanoi, rooftops of the majority of buildings are, more often than not, used for technical system layout. Imperia Sky Garden is, therefore, not only a pioneer in this trend but also an accent of Hanoi’s urban architecture.

- What are your expectations about the partnership with MIKGroup in the future?

With the experience of designing almost 1000 projects worldwide, we have always put ourselves in customer’s and end-user’s shoes. At Imperia Sky Garden, we combined international and local values so that the project can adapt to Hanoi’s weather conditions while still offers a luxury, premium and nature-friendly life for residents.

Over time, we have realized that MIKGroup is a project developer with a strategic vision in the real-estate market. Therefore, we really looking forward to further collaboration with MIKGroup in upcoming projects.
